What to Expect During Your First Panchakarma Stay at Ayurdeva

Before you arrive

Every Panchakarma programme at Ayurdeva starts with a consultation, not a booking form. Once you’ve enquired about a stay, Dr. Parvathy Ravindran reviews your health history and current concerns to decide which of the five classical procedures — Vamana, Virechana, Vasti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana — your programme should include, and for how long. Most stays run 7 to 21 days; the exact length depends on what’s being treated, not a fixed package.

Your first day

You’ll check into one of our four private, air-conditioned suites at the Irinjalakuda retreat and meet the resident therapy team the same day. A short physical examination confirms the treatment plan before anything begins — Panchakarma is genuine physiological cleansing, so we don’t start procedures without a clear read on your current state.

What a typical day looks like

Mornings begin with guided yoga and pranayama, followed by your scheduled treatment session — this might be Abhyanga, Kizhi, Shirodhara, or one of the core Panchakarma procedures, depending on where you are in the programme. Meals are freshly prepared Ayurvedic vegetarian food, timed and composed to support whatever your body is processing that day. Afternoons are typically for rest — genuine rest, not incidental downtime — and the day closes with guided meditation.

What to expect physically

It’s normal to feel more tired than usual in the first few days, particularly if your programme includes Virechana or Vasti. This is expected and monitored — it’s why the stay is residential and physician-supervised rather than something to attempt around a work schedule. Most guests report feeling noticeably lighter and clearer by the second week.

Planning your stay

Irinjalakuda is around 90 minutes by road from Kochi and Cochin International Airport, so most guests fly into Kochi and travel on from there. If you’re considering a Panchakarma stay, the best starting point is a consultation — reach out and tell us what you’re hoping to treat, and we’ll recommend a programme length and start date.
